Time and date resetting- new code
« on: August 10, 2016, 04:34:28 PM »
Time and date reset 2 days in a row. These are the first incidences I have had at all.

I raised a ticket, and was advised to change the battery. Hopefully that fixes it, but too early to say. I'll try to report back in a few weeks

it appears that many (not sure if all) the problem goes away with a battery change ... that's a little perplexing unless they are (corrected) having a failure rate on the batteries -or- thebatteries are discharged due to a long time sitting(?)

For anybody contemplating a battery change. It's a CR 2032  3V

There is no battery on the Beaglebone. It's on the board the Beaglebone plugs into that has the battery-backed RTC. It's not clear to me how long before shipping of the machines those boards were populated with the battery and sat and how finicky the system is with a battery that drops below a certain voltage threshold. It's something to monitor over time.

FWIW, most of the Beaglebones in the world have an internet connection as set their clocks via NTP. The battery is just a way to hold and run the RTC and NTP is usually there to reset it.

Quick question, I am experiencing the reset and also was instructed to replace the CR2032 battery. Is this done while the game is powered up or not? I would rather not lose my settings and high scores so I assume it should be done powered up. Is there any reason why I should not do it that way?

My advice is to have the machine powered off. If you drop the battery or anything else while the machine is on, you could be a lot more unhappy with shorting a board out, than if scores were reset. I do not expect it to reset your scores, but I have not done the battery swap yet.

I changed my battery with the game off. Didn't lose settings or scores, I think the battery is just for the RTC

let us know how things go ... how long does it take usually for the problem to occur? hours, days, weeks?

Mine would do it maybe once every couple weeks or so. I put in a new battery today. I'll post if it pops up again.

Any updates. Has it been confirmed as a battery issue? My 2 week old standard now resets time and date every time. It's annoying. But if it's just the battery no big deal. I don't lose any other settings.

I have not had any resets since installing a new battery. Will update if that changes.
