Quick Q: Do you know the ROM version or equivalent version that's being used? 1.13b is the one that supports variable SOL awards in tournament mode rather than 50 million each time. 1.1 awards 50 million each time as far as I know.

Will the updated saucer features of the LE/SE (metallic saucer, multi color lighting) be sold separate and be compatible with the classic model?

We will be taking all of your questions and anything I cannot answer I will get the answers from CGC.

Then we will post a FAQ with answers - all of that will be available at the time of annoucement - which is set to be officially Friday Mar 24th 5PM CST.

Why don't they just start with a base unit and you can add click to add the options you want to it?

Want a standard dmd + topper?  Ok, that will be $xxxx + $xxx.

Will the color upgrade to the classic version be similar to MMr? Just install the rom and good to go? Is the color upgrade an option that will be pre-installed on games or will I have to purchase and install separate? Also will the larger LCD be available separate and would it be compatible with MMr?

Hi Rick,

Could you tell us if the side rails will be glued/double-side taped (like original Williams/Bally) or screwed (like Stern) ?
This is good to know if anyone wants to buy an extra set of legs/trims in a different color for future installation. In that case, it would be better if they are screwed and no glue is used.

Thanks

As with MMR, the side rails will be double-side taped (no glue that I'm aware of). I believe as with MMR, the cabinet art ended before the tape, so there is no risk of the tape pulling the cabinet art off. The screw only approach is problemmatic for the middle of the rail, so I think CGC continues with the tried and true method. I think we would all like a decent approach without lots of external screws ... perhaps on game3

Thanks Rick.

Last question regarding the trim: you announced a possible red option for the LE. This is great !
Could we have the option (with extra fee) to have a colored trim/legs on a standard edition ?
Title: Re: AFMR - Q&A Input?
Post by: PPS on March 17, 2017, 02:22:56 PM
The only 'red' that I think would be done is that I order red trim and it's available as an aftermarket purchase and customers could switch that.

Options on games are super great for customers, but super difficult for manufacturers - the more options the more headaches which we have seen translates to unhappy customers (waiting longer for a game with 'their' trim color, accidentally shipping the wrong color game, having to keep track of all that, etc).

There was talk of a discount/incentive for MMRLE purchasers. Is that still in the cards and if so what would be the $/incentive?

Thanks,

Does AFMr use the same beaglebone black that MMr does? There appears to be an extra board in the backbox, what does it do?

that extra board is a single power driver board vs 3 for the MMR.

Would the extra large screen work in theory in a MMR?  If so are there plans to issue it as a mod?
Title: Re: AFMR - Q&A Input?
Post by: PPS on March 19, 2017, 03:04:36 PM
in theory it will work, but requires some small tweaks to the software, and possibly small tweaks to the hardware (cabling, etc).

Our intent is to provide this as an upgrade for MMR, we just have not yet done work on it as the priority is AFMR

Couple quick questions. What are the dimensions of the games? Don't have a lot of headroom in the basement so a game with a topper may not fit.

And, will the upgrades from the LE be available for purchase or installed as an option on the SE? IOW, can the mini saucer lighting installed as an option on a SE? Would there be an issue with the leds being driven properly if retro fit?

I believe it would be the standard 1.13 code base of AFM. That being said, other rom versions could theoretically be supported after some testing by CGC.

The dimensions are the same as the original AFM (sorry, I'm not around one right now) ... the topper on the game is 85 1/2 inches - the topper is 9.5 inches tall.

What is being done with AFMR LE for existing MMR LE customers is to give them the ability to have the same LE# that they had for MMR LE and prioritize them in line for a game from Chicago Gaming. The stipulation is that a deposit be received by April 15th ... that is new as of this morning and had come from a conference call with all the resellers.

In terms of what options (and when) would be available on different models (topper, saucer kit, etc) - that is still being figured out by CGC.

Don't know if this was covered elsewhere but who are the resellers? Will they all be selling at the same terms or prices? Or is that up to them and us to strike a deal?
Title: Re: AFMR - Q&A Input?
Post by: PPS on March 24, 2017, 12:14:33 PM
CGC should be listing the authorized resellers ... i'm not sure there's alot of negotiating that can be done on price, etc, usually it's about access to games, credibility, past history, service capabilities, support, etc.  If it were about price then I would assume CGC would just cut out all resellers and sell them itself ...

Does AFMR LE come pre-equipped with Cliffy (or Cliffy-like) protectors ?
If yes, which area will be protected ?

Thanks
Title: Re: AFMR - Q&A Input?
Post by: PPS on March 28, 2017, 09:44:33 PM
It will be announced that there will likely be a protector on the SOL ... I would think it would be more like a mantis vs cliffy as cliffy's are more to protect and hide existing damage, so in this case, it's better to have a interior liner like mantis which prevents the issue from starting.

Now that consumer interest is peaked, reviews are in, and orders placed...Does PPS have any schedule for production runs, estimated shipping etc?
Title: Re: AFMR - Q&A Input?
Post by: PPS on April 01, 2017, 02:43:55 PM
Well, I think CGC is the authority on Production status, but what we have bee told:
- Production starts in May - will need to ramp up - they are targetting 200/games per month +/-
- They will then produce some SE/CE to get show machines and showroom machines for dealers as well as to ensure the process
- Then they will primarily focus on LE's, but may insert some SE/CE (especially for Intl' customers who order a mix in a container.
- LE customers who own MMR's will be prioritized for matching LE #'s
- Then at some point (probably after 450-500 units) they will run some more MMRs (est July Aug) - probably 250-500 max
- My guess is that they are trying to get all LE's by end of the year, certainly sooner if things work the way they project.

All of this is subject to change ... based on what really happens.

As far as 'when do I get my game' questions - It's really difficult to pinpoint exactly when ... why?
1) First, all of the factors above - anything changes (for better or worse) timing comes in or goes out
2) Each reseller only knows their allocation (i.e. their 'line') and don't really have visibility to others, they should get games as a % of their allocation (ideally) - so if there are 1000 LE's and a reseller has 25 of them, then ideally they get one out of every 50
3) We know that #2 doesn't usually work out that way for so many reasons - efficiency of shipping, if resellers don't have payment yet, if international order, customer orders a couple of games, etc.
4) Options like even trim can re-arrange things -  if a batch of trim colors is run then that may cause things to get out of order - this is why minimal number of options matters (ideally zero options)

What most resellers can probably tell you is 'where' you are in their line relatively (soon, first 25%, last 25%, etc) - as a specific # is not particularly helpful without more info. Larger resellers get more allocation and thus more games for every 100 made, etc.

Any CGC updates will help resellers try to project when games will be available, but there are alway starts/stops, etc. Hopefully for the AFMR and the upcoming MMR runs there will be more of a steady state of production.

So yes, we will have alot of information, but it will be (as always) an 'estimate' ... the closer you are to the information the better you can predict. And PPS is the largest reseller as well as have as much information as anyone other than CGC itself.

Rick

Rick, any news on what specifically is being done for protection around the SOL hole (i.e. Cliffy, Mantis, etc?), and is that the only place getting protection out of the box.
Title: Re: AFMR - Q&A Input?
Post by: PPS on April 02, 2017, 07:48:53 PM
I expect unless there are some difficulties that MMRs will have some SOL protector - most likely more like a mantis design (as there is no existing wear which is where cliffy's are best) ... exactly what that will be or look like, no idea. Not sure about other areas, but I know there are concerns that the protectors that in other areas like the drop target one interfere with the original mechs, but that is about all I have heard.
