Play field lights bright and dim?
« on: June 26, 2016, 09:53:14 PM »
Has anyone else noticed that when you hit the right flipper now the play field lights get brighter and when you hit the left one they get dimmer?

I've tried it in both normal and min.  Does it all the time seemingly no matter what. I can get it to even do it in attract mode.

I cannot reproduce this, so I do not believe it's a general issue.

It's noticeable for sure, my wife picked up on it immediately.  At first I thought it was brightening when there was an event happening but soon figured it out that it's directly tied to the flipper buttons. It does it in attract mode, and anytime during game play.  The best time to see it is when you first start a game and before you launch the ball, look the inserts and toggle back and forth between left flipper and right flipper and they go dimmer with the left one and brighter with the right one.  Not really sure what to do about it.  I've tried turning off the A1-25 auto dim (or what ever it's called) but no change.  I can't get it to stop.Bruce

Yes, this is happening to mine as well.  I'm not exactly sure if it's the brightness, but I can definitely notice the change in speed of the flashing (when testing with ball sitting in shooter lane before launching).

Ya, I thought I noticed a speed flashing change too but wasn't totally sure.  I thought I saw it during gameplay but again, not sure.

It's definitely happening during gameplay as well.

I don't think I see it; or I don't know what I am looking for...

Alright, so I think this is tied to the issue I mentioned in my Incandescent Emulation topic.  I believe it happens all the time, but it's easiest to see in attract mode... when I hit the left flipper button Incandescent Emulation turns off, then when I hit the right flipper button it turns back on.  Is yours doing this?  If so, how in the world did they miss this in coding and testing?

Yes, I can reproduce now. You're right, it's not brightness, it's that the smooth fading is gone with one flipper button and not the other.

After more testing, I believe the Playfield Brightness is also switching to LOW when the left flipper is pressed, then to NORMAL when the right flipper button is pressed.

So, to recap, at anytime when the left flipper button is pressed the playfield lighting dims and the smooth led fading is lost.  Then when the right flipper button is pressed, the playfield brightens and the smooth fading comes back.

I've passed this stuff onto CGC, so I expect they will start digesting it tomorrow ...

Just tested this on mine. Super subtle, but yeah - the left flipper changes the inserts to "no fade" and right changed it back to fade. It's like a toggle switch.

If you change incandescent emulation to "Off", this bug doesn't happen - but, you lose your insert fade.

I'm not in front of my machine at the moment but wondering if it also cures the brightness toggling?  I find that more annoying then the incandescent emulation.
