Can't screw in leg bolt

I unboxed my Gold MMR last week but ran into trouble with one particular leg bolt slot. I tried using different bolts, but none would 'catch' and screw in. I've tried going slow, fast, but it just won't grab on!


What should I do? Do I need an impact wrench, or would that just make it worse?

I would try chasing the threads with a 3/8-16 tap.

I got the tap, but how do I use it? I don't want to make things worse. Do I use my electric drill? Do I use a ratchet by hand? Apologies for being not-very-handy.

PPS:
Ratchet by hand. Just thread it in the hole the same way a bolt would go in and the graduated nature of the tap will remove any burr which is hanging up the leg bolt from going in correctly. The tap will get the threads to be fully formed and the dimensions that they are supposed to be.
