FAST WPC 2.0
« on: October 30, 2014, 06:08:42 PM »

We have been hard at work getting the whole 2.0 platform dialed in and meeting the needs of IP holders, software developers and more. So active game development is fairly limited right now. John Popadiuk and Kevin Kulek has expressed interest in working to produce 2.0 games, as well as many other independent game developers. For timing, John has some pressing goals with his game releases that are going to require his full attention and Kevin has got some Predators to ship. This coincides well with the work we are doing with both the hardware and the delivery mechanisms, as well as coordinating the efforts with Rick and Matt w/ PPS.

I am really happy with how the concept has evolved and look forward to sharing more details on it soon.

What happens with CV or TOTAN upgrade? It's rumor or real? If real, what's approximate release date?

Thanks!

My apologies for the slow reply!

I don't have specific to share on this one right at the moment. We are putting the finalizing the "2.0" platform as a whole. The combination of hardware, software and infrastructure needed to deliver the games in the way the protects the code and assets as required by WMS, as well as an elegant way to provide code updates, is something that will hopefully make it easy for 2.0 games to hit the streets quickly when they are completed. The great thing about this approach means that there won't be just 1 "Funhouse 2.0" which was a top request by people excited about 2.0 games. We feel our approach will provide a way for different games to be delivered.

For Funhouse, Kevin from Skit-B pinball has been working on a "Return to the Funhouse" concept that sounds like a lot of fun. I would expect more details on this in the spring.

When we made the announcement of our hardware and goals for the "2.0" games it was our goal to be able to work with original game designers whenever possible. John Popadiuk expressed interest in working on new game rules and experiences for CV / TOTAN. We all know how full John's plate is right now with his games, so I expect any development John may have on any 2.0 games to not start until later in the spring/summer 2015.

Where can I find information about the licensing costs and requirements? I am considering trying to write new rules for No Fear, and I need to decide if I want to try to improve what is there, or start from the beginning.

I will try that. From posts on pinside, I thought these forums were the place to go for answers.

Thanks

Any update on the start date as yet and is JPop still on board after the Zidware debacle?

Boy, when this was first posted, it was seen as a POSITIVE to name drop them, now both are a ongoing blight on pinball.
